Dawn Bandy: Director of Dance Legacy
Dawn Bandy has extensive training in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip hop and tumbling. As a professional dancer at Hubbard Street Dance in Chicago performing has taken her all over the world. A renowned dancer with many credits to her name, Dawn is currently the owner/Director of Dance Legacy in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her dancers are recognized as some of the top dancers in the United States and their performances have earned numerous Regional, National, and Choreography titles. Along with her performing and teaching career Dawn has had the privilege of judging and teaching thousands of dancers across the country at many competitions and conventions. Her unique style of combining technical elements, contemporary movement and athleticism makes Dawn a much sought after choreographer. She loves to educate, prepare, and inspire serious dancers to follow their dreams of becoming a professional dancer.
Cole Companion: Artistic Director
Cole Companion began his training at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating with their highest honor, the “Prix D’excellance De Danse,” he has been a performing member of Alabama Ballet, The Arova Foundation, Birmingham Ballet Reparatory Company, Oakland Ballet Company, and Bay Pointe Ballet. Previous roles include Albrecht in Giselle, Tea Man in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, Principal in Alfonzo Figeroura’s Changes, Hues and The Awakening, Furbo In Graham Lustig's Pulcinella, Russian in Bruce Steivel's The Nutcracker, Michael in Bruce Steivel's Peter Pan, and Puck in Bruce Steivel's A Midsummer Nights Dream. As a choreographer he has created numerous works including The Allegory of the Cave, Our Best Decision, El Dorado, Les Biches, and The Cask of Amontillado. He is also an adjunct professor for choreographic compostistion at Anderson Univeristy, as well as Ballet Master and Technical Director for Ballet Theatre of Indiana.
Miss Tavia: Hip Hop Instuctor
Tavia, started dancing at a very young age and have since been on the dance scene for many years. Graduating from George Washington High School in 1995 where she was a dancer and choreographer in the school band, she went on to compete, choreograph, and continue to dance with many other teams later on. With that experience she has assisted in taking multiple teams to national hip-hop competitions. “Although I have trained in other styles of dance my passion has always been hip-hop. Understanding, that dance is not forever for her she is currently in the process of completing her master’s degree in business. “I love being a part of the DL family; it gives me a chance to bring out my creative side.”
Katie Schmidt: Tap Instructor
Katie Schmidt is excited to be starting her 10th year with Dance Legacy, and 20 years of teaching experience all together. She has specialized in tap dancing, during her career. Katie loves to share this passion and experience of tap with her students. She was trained by many local and national tap professionals. She loves to share her love and knowledge of this unique art with all of her students. Many of her students have gone on to pursue professional dancing careers.
