At Dance Legacy, we’ve been helping Central Indiana stay stylish on the dance floor since opening our doors in 2005. Our highly trained instructors have a wealth of experience in teaching and performing various styles and disciplines. We have a passion for the art of dance, karate and for helping others discover their inner talent.
Owner / Studio Director
Dawn Bandy has extensive training in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip hop and tumbling. As a professional dancer at Hubbard Street Dance in Chicago performing has taken her all over the world. A renowned dancer with many credits to her name, Dawn is currently the Owner & Studio Director. Her dancers are recognized as some of the top dancers in the United States and their performances have earned numerous Regional, National, and Choreography titles. Along with her performing and teaching career Dawn has had the privilege of judging and teaching thousands of dancers across the country at many competitions and conventions. Her unique style of combining technical elements, contemporary movement and athleticism makes Dawn a much sought after choreographer. She loves to educate, prepare, and inspire all ages & levels of dancers to follow their dreams.
Artistic Director / Ballet Instructor
Cole began his training at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating with the highest honor, the “Prix D’excellance De Danse,” he has been a performing member of Alabama Ballet, The Arova Foundation, Birmingham Ballet Repertory Company, Oakland Ballet Company, and Bay Pointe Ballet. Previous roles include Albrecht in Giselle, Tea Man in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, Principal in Alfonzo Figeroura’s Changes, Hues and The Awakening, Furbo In Graham Lustig's Pulcinella, Russian in Bruce Steivel's The Nutcracker, Michael in Bruce Steivel's Peter Pan, and Puck in Bruce Steivel's A Midsummer Nights Dream. As a choreographer he has created numerous works including The Allegory of the Cave, Our Best Decision, El Dorado, Les Biches, and The Cask of Amontillado.
Tavia started dancing at a very young age and has since been on the dance scene for many years. Graduating from George Washington High School in 1995 where she was a dancer and choreographer in the school band, she went on to compete, choreograph, and continue to dance with many other teams later on. With that experience she has assisted in taking multiple teams to national hip-hop competitions. “Although I have trained in other styles of dance, my passion has always been hip-hop. I love being a part of the DL family; it gives me a chance to bring out my creative side.”
Contemporary Jazz & Hip-Hop Instructor
Justin is a nationally awarded choreographer and dance teacher who hales from Charlotte NC. His students have been seen dancing along side stars such as Justin Timberlake, Jason Derulo, and Joe Jonas to name a few. His students have also been seen on such Broadway shows as Hamilton, Spamalot, Jagged Little Pill, and A Chorus Line. He has also set original work on the Chicago based professional company "Inaside". His work has been praised by some of the biggest names in the dance industry today. His biggest accomplishment to date was being voted "Teacher of the Year" by Dancer Magazine. Justin is beyond thrilled and excited to be joining the DL family teaching contemporary jazz, and hip-hop.
Business Manager / Recreational Pre-School Instructor
GiGi is Dance Legacy's Business Manager and the Recreational Pre-School Instructor. Her first-hand involvement in helping run successful businesses for over 30 years makes her a great asset to the DL family. She not only brings her natural business sense, but she also brings her love of dance and her strong desire to help children reach their potential in the cheer and dance field. Her goal is to help each little dancer move to the upper levels in their dance adventure. Ms. GiGi was instrumental in forming and directing the first junior cheer program within the Brownsburg Community which boasted more than 200 cheerleaders for the Junior Football League. Away from Dance Legacy Ms. GiGi serves as a front-liner at a local hospital, and enjoys her time away by traveling, walking, and spending valuable time with her family.
Tumbling & Cheer Instructor
Shelby is a Brownsburg native and brings to the DL family over 15 years of tumbling and acrobatic experience. She graduated from Brownsburg High School and served as a high school cheerleader which has allowed her to train in all levels of tumbling and acrobatics. After graduating from BHS she went on to pursue a career in the medical field as a CMA. Shelby works well with the upper level tumblers but has a great passion for the beginning young tumblers molding them to reach their highest level of acrobatic potential. Her background as a CMA is a great benefit to the DL family as her knowledge in injury prevention has proven to be a plus for our students.
Tumbling & Cheer Instructor
Sammi is very excited to join the staff here at Dance Legacy as a Tumbling Instructor. She started her dance & tumbling career at the age of 5 and has cheered competitively throughout her junior-high and high school years at Lebanon High School (Class of 2017). She is a former DL student who performed with our Competition Dance Company for many years. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University specializing in Early Childhood Education & Exceptional needs children (December 2021). She is very excited to be in the classroom teaching and mentoring DL students with their tumbling and cheer goals!
Student Assistant Instructor
DaeLynn has been involved in dance practically from her very first steps and started competing at the age of 2. She is an award winning dancer, competing across all genres of dance. DaeLynn is on our Senior team and has been assisting in our classes for several years, accepting a position on staff in 2020. Outside of spending long hours with her DL family, DaeLynn is a dedicated honors student at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and takes her education achievements seriously.
Dance Legacy is so proud of DaeLynn's growth and accomplishments both in dance and academically. We love her kind gentle spirit and passion of dance she shares with our students.
Director of First Impressions/Front Desk
Kyrstin joined Dance Legacy in July of 2021. Along with a great work ethic, Kyrstin always keeps a positive attitude when working as our Director of First Impressions. Kyrstin enjoys helping out the studio wherever she can and talking and interacting with customers. She currently attends, IUPUI majoring in mortuary science. Outside of the studio Kyrstin enjoys painting, ceramics, gaming and hanging out with her pet fish Kyle, which he is the absolute love of her life!
As a 6th degree black belt, Sensei Jim currently has over 40 years of experience in several styles of karate and traditional weapons. Guided by his expert instruction, Legacy Self Defense students advance through a traditional karate colored-belt system as new techniques are mastered.
